The celebratory display will be on show at the Brighton Museum & Art Gallery.
Brighton & Hove Albion’s promotion to the Premier League will be celebrated with a new pop-up display, named Soaring Seagulls, on show at the Brighton Museum & Art Gallery.
Coinciding with Albion’s promotion parade along Brighton seafront on Sunday 14th May, the display will open on the same day and run until Sunday 3rd September, overlapping with the start of the 2017/18 Premier League season.
Memorabilia and ephemera associated with the Seagulls from Royal Pavilion & Museums’ collections will be presented across two display cases, including mementoes from the club’s promotion to the old First Division in 1979 and a football shirt from the 1983 FA Cup Final against Manchester United.
Other highlights include the emotive painting ‘Saturday Afternoon’ (1953) by Frederick Yates, which depicts the club’s old Goldstone Ground which was sold in the 1990s, and mementoes from the club’s history, such as programmes, newspaper cuttings and much more.
The display will celebrate how far the club has come since avoiding relegation from the Football League 20 years ago, with the Seagulls now playing in front of more than 30,000 fans at the Amex and plying their trade in the top flight of English Football.
Dan Robertson, Local History Curator at Brighton Museum, said: “Royal Pavilion & Museums are keen to celebrate Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club’s promotion to the Premier League, and congratulate them on their achievement. We wish the fans and everyone associated with the club all the best for next season - up the Albion!”
The Soaring Seagulls display can be viewed on the North Balcony, First Floor at the Brighton Museum & Art Gallery - Royal Pavilion Garden, Brighton BN1 1EE, UK.
