KAYAL PRAISES TEAM EFFORT

10 March 2017

The central midfielder is ready to give everything during the promotion run-in.

Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Beram Kayal praised his team-mates for staying in the promotion mix during his time out injured, and revealed his unselfish attitude towards team selection ahead of tonight’s game against Derby County.

The Seagulls occupy second spot in the Sky Bet Championship and could open up a nine-point lead to third-placed Huddersfield Town with victory over the Rams, and Kayal applauded the hard work from his midfield team-mates.

He said: “When I was injured it was hurting me because I wasn’t able to help my mates. But the players who have come into the midfield area have done an unbelievable job for us.

“They’ve been amazing and every game they do their job for the team. There’s a reason why we’re second in the Championship and still fighting to go up.

“This team is not just about one player, it’s a big squad and everyone’s ready to come in and help the team.

“Of course I’d like to play every minute, but it doesn't always work like that. It doesn’t matter who’s in the first 11, it’s just about getting the points and we want to continue doing that.”

The Israeli midfielder was recalled to the starting line-up in Albion’s 2-0 victory over Rotherham United on Tuesday evening, and Kayal stressed the importance of being ready to grab your opportunity when it comes.

“It was a nice feeling, I’d missed that. I’ve been with the team since the day I came back from the injury and have always been pushing to start.

“I’m happy to push forward and try to come in and help the team. Obviously I feel really good now and stronger, but it’s just one game of course.

“The competition is so difficult at the moment with a lot of players playing very well. You have to be patient, do the extra work, and when the manager asks you to come into the first 11, you need to be ready.”

Kayal missed over three months of the season with an ankle injury, and the central midfielder showed his appreciation towards the club for supporting him, and now aims to give his all for promotion.

“When you’re out, you appreciate a lot of things. You come into your job smiling and obviously I appreciate being at this club.

“The club have shown me the support I needed when I was injured. We were speaking about my contract for a while, and from the owner to the last person at the club, I’ve been shown support.

“I signed a deal and I appreciate being at this club more and more, especially when I was injured. They showed how important it was to keep my here.

“From the other side of things, I’m ready and hungry to go again. I’ll give everything for this club.”
