The defender is enjoying his first promotion battle.
Brighton & Hove Albion defender Shane Duffy is thriving on his first experience of a promotion race with the Seagulls this season, and believes it’s important for his team-mates to enjoy the pressures involved.
Albion have occupied one of the top two spots in the Sky Bet Championship since the end of October, and with the promotion battle approaching the final bend, Duffy is delighted to be in the thick of the race.
He said, “I haven’t been involved in something like this in my career; It’s all new to me and I’m enjoying it. It’s good to have this pressure; it brings out different sides of you that you didn’t really know you had.
“It makes me perform better, and you know every single point matters. You know every training session matters, it’s not like we’re playing for nothing.
“Every day you’re living your life right, for the same goal that everyone wants. Everyone knows in their head where they want to be.
“That’s why everyone takes things so seriously. Even with setbacks, we bounce back well and I’m fully confident we can bounce back again for a massive push at the end.”
The Seagulls were unable to take points off promotion rivals Newcastle United, as they lost 2-1 at the Amex in midweek, but Duffy insists the team have put the result behind them and are now full focused on Nottingham Forest.
“It was a disappointing night but it’s something we can’t dwell on. The lads had a meeting and we got the result out of our system.
“It was a difficult ending, after all the effort we put in trying to get a result. But we move on and have just as big a game on Saturday to try and put it right.
“You’ve got to not let it affect you in the next game because you’ll get punished in this league. It’s our aim to be strong and have good bouncebackability.
“Coming from such a high-profile game to a normal league game on Saturday, we’ve got to focus on the job, and that’s to go there and get the win.”

Albion have the chance to claim three points before promotion rivals Huddersfield Town and Newcastle play each other in the late kick-off, and Duffy urged his team-mates to take care of their own business.
“Whatever happens in the other games, it happens, it’s not in our hands. But what is in our hands is we’ve got 12 games left to win as many as we can.
“Sometimes it’s better to play before to get the job done and put more pressure on them, but everyone’s got to play the same number of games, so whoever’s there at the end deserves it.
“We’re just worried about ourselves. If we look at the teams below us, they’ll end up catching us. If we can win on Saturday, then that’s our job done.”
