A study was carried out to identify Europe's most passionate supporters.

The support behind Brighton & Hove Albion’s historic, promotion-winning team was undoubtably incredible last season, and after a study undertaken by MasterCard, British football supporters have been voted the most passionate across the whole of Europe.

With an average attendance of over 27,000 at the Amex last season, and multiple long journeys for Albion’s devoted support throughout their memorable campaign, it’s no surprise that England’s supporters have been identified for their undeniable love for football.

‘The 12th Man’ study explored just how far supporters would go to follow their team, in regards to how much money is spent, how many miles are travelled, and quite simply, just how in love they are with their chosen football club.

Supporters across Europe were asked which nation has the most passionate fans, based on the matchday atmosphere created and the commitment shown to travel the length of the country to follow their chosen side - and unsurprisingly, British fans convincingly came out on top.

Ahead of Spanish fans and Italian fans, who received 16% and 12% of the vote respectively, British supporters were chosen as the most passionate with a staggering 32%, as selected by their European peers.

In light of this study, Albion would like to thank all the club’s supporters for their tremendous backing over the years, because when it comes down to it, football would be nothing without you, the fans.
