Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper Niki Maenpaa expressed his happiness at signing a new contract with the club, and says he has fulfilled a lifelong ambition of being part of a Premier League team.
Maenpaa spoke after putting in a fine display between the sticks in yesterday’s 2-0 win over Fortuna Dusseldorf, following a good week’s training in the Austrian Alps.
He said, “I’m really delighted. It’s a new challenge for everybody and I’m looking forward to it. I am really happy at Brighton at the moment and really happy to sign a new contract.
“It’s always been my dream to be in the Premier League. Two years ago when I was playing in the second tier in Holland, it was hard to believe it was possible. I was always hoping and believing and now it’s here, I am enjoying the moment and really proud.
“It was nice to play [against Fortuna] and it’s been quite a tough training camp, but it’s good to finish with a victory. The team played well, especially in the second half.”
The Finn says he is now relishing the battle with new Albion shot-stopper Mathew Ryan for the number one spot.
“I am looking forward to meeting him next week and I have heard a lot of good things about him.

“I see it as a big chance and I’m looking forward to it. I am ready and we’ll see what happens next season.”
