Brighton & Hove Albion defender Shane Duffy felt the Norwich City match came at a good time for the squad, after a keenly-fought 1-1 draw at Carrow Road.

Albion’s defence was tested by a lively Norwich attack particularly in the first half, and the Irishman says it was a perfect challenge for Albion’s defence.

He said, “It was a better test, they’re a good team in this league and it was a step up from Southend match.

“This is where we want to be at this stage of pre-season. We’re still not fully there yet, we need to get more minutes and a feel back for playing in tough games.

“They had quite a lot of possession, defensively we were quite solid and tested us. You can see why we played them.”

The centre-back explained that Albion had to adapt tactically following Norwich’s positive start, but believes they recovered well and could have claimed a victory.

“They started quite well and we were quite sloppy on the ball. They were expansive so we had to do a bit of defending early on, and their formation caught us out a bit, so we had to adapt and go to 3-5-2.

“After the first 20 minutes we scored, got to grips of the game and were in control for a period. The goal killed us bit and then it was quite an even game all around and anyone could’ve won it.”
