Steve Sidwell has edged out Jiri Skalak to win Brighton & Hove Albion’s 2016 Goal of the Year competition.
Over 3000 votes were cast by Seagulls fans on social media and e-mail, with Sidwell’s incredible 45-yard lob at Bristol City gathering 54% of the vote.

Jiri Skalak’s thunderbolt against Queens Park Rangers at the tail-end of last season won the 2015/16 Albion Goal of the Season, but Sidwell’s memorable strike surpassed the Czech’s effort as the best Albion goal of the calendar year.
Sidwell will now be eyeing the 2016/17 Albion Goal of the Season Award, which is also voted for by fans and announced at the club’s Players’ Awards Dinner during the run-in of the current campaign.
