Brighton & Hove Albion defender Vicky Ashton-Jones is looking forward to facing top-flight opposition again today, as the side face Bristol City in the FA WSL Continental Tyres Cup this evening, kick-off 5.30pm.

Albion have recorded two wins from three games in the competition so far, and Ashton-Jones says the squad can head into the match full of confidence.

She said, “It will be a good test for us to face Super League One opposition again, and will give us another gauge of where we’re at in regard to our standard.

“It will be a very good battle for us and one I think we can be very positive going into.

“We’ve had a very reasonable start in the competition, and shows us how eager we are to do well in the cup.”

Ashton-Jones explained how pleased the group have been with the start to the season as a whole, and feels they have benefitted from the recent international break, with today’s game the first in almost three weeks.

“We’ve gelled really well together and come on massively in each game. We’re continually wanting to push ourselves in each game and really want to put ourselves on the map within the Super League.

“We’ve been working on a few things in training and had some really tough physical sessions. By not having any games, we’ve worked even harder in training, so the girls are in a good position heading into Saturday.”
