Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Richie Towell has joined Rotherham United on a season-long loan deal.

The 26-year-old has found his chances limited on the south coast, and now joins the Millers to help in their promotion push from League One.

The Irishman scored his first goal for the Seagulls against Lincoln City in the FA Cup last season, but made just a single league appearance as Albion won promotion to the Premier League.

Albion manager Chris Hughton said, “Richie wants to play regularly and this is an ideal opportunity for him to do that. It’s a move that benefits all three parties: the player, ourselves and Rotherham.

“Richie is a great professional that always works hard in training, and this will provide him with the opportunity to play regular first-team matches."

Towell moved to Albion in 2015 from Irish side Dundalk, having scored 25 goals in 32 appearances during his final season at the club.

Meanwhile, Albion under-23 defender Rian O’Sullivan has joined Isthmian League Premier Division side Worthing on loan until January.
