Brighton & Hove Albion’s under-18s began their season with an impressive 3-1 victory over West Ham United on Saturday.
A goal each from Ben Eden-Clark, Isaac Hutchinson and Danny Cashman was enough to give Ian Buckman’s side a resounding victory, while Korrey Henry scored a consolation goal for the Hammers.
Albion had an early chance to break the deadlock through Teddy Hoare after West Ham keeper Rihards Matrevics misplaced a pass, but his shot was deflected wide.
But it took the Seagulls just 11 minutes to find the net, as Hoare’s delivery was met by Clark-Eden, who scored on his debut for the under-18s.
Buckman’s side doubled their advantage just six minutes later, when Hutchinson ended a sweeping attacking move with a close-range finish following some neat build-up play involving Tyrese Fornah, Ryan Longman and Hoare.
The Hammers got a foothold in the game in the 54th minute, when Henry met a ball into the box and fired home past George Bentley in the Albion goal.
Hutchinson had a chance to double Albion’s tally advantage with a free kick that went just wide, but the third goal did come courtesy of Cashman.
Alex Cochrane picked out Cashman with a brilliant through ball, and the latter produced a cool finish to wrap up all three points.
