Brighton & Hove Albion winger Solly March is raring to go ahead of the new Premier League season, and believes he has benefitted from a full summer of pre-season football this summer.

The winger shrugged off a minor injury scare in last Saturday’s pre-season friendly against Atletico de Madrid, and feels in the best-possible shape ahead of Saturday’s match against Manchester City.

He said, “For a moment I was a bit worried as there was just a bit of bruising on my calf, but it’s all good now. Hopefully by Saturday I’ll be in good condition for the game.

“It’s helped me having a full pre-season to get some fitness and strength into me; I am stronger than ever. It’s to do with the mixture of power and gym work which has helped my fitness.

“Everything is good now - I feel fit and ready to go. Hopefully it’s a good season for everyone.”

The England under-21 international insists the side won’t be intimidated by the stellar names on City’s teamsheet, and that it may be a good time to play Pep Guardiola’s men before they settle into their stride.

“It’s a good thing, we could be playing them midway through the season when they’re firing on all cylinders and know how we play.

“They have got some world-class players and have spent a lot of money, but hopefully we can give them a shock on Saturday. We want to compete as well as we can.

“You play with no fear because we’re expected to lose on paper, but we can put in a good performance and getting one point or three would be great.”

March also expressed his delight at the prospect of walking out at the Amex as a Premier League footballer, with his supportive family in the stands.

“I’ve had a lot of ticket requests for the game, but as long as my close family are there, I’m going to be happy.

“They’ve helped me a lot, especially through injuries and the harder times with me being out for a year; but even in the good times too, they’ve supported me and helped me through it. They’ve given me confidence and belief.”
