Brighton & Hove Albion manager Chris Hughton is eager for his side to rediscover that winning feeling again, when they host Barnet in a Carabao Cup second-round tie on Tuesday evening.

Albion have made a difficult start to life in the Premier League, following back-to-back defeats against Manchester City and Leicester City, and while Hughton is expected to rotate his squad, he highlighted the importance of progressing in the cup.

He said, “I will use the squad and it’s a good opportunity for me to use the players that haven’t played yet or missed a few games in pre-season. These players will have a chance to play.

“But when you are on the back of a few defeats, you want to get that [winning] feeling back again.

“We had been used to that in the last couple of seasons and it’s a good feeling. We’re desperate to get that back, and this is our next opportunity, so hopefully we can do it then.”

Hughton reflected on Saturday’s defeat to Leicester on Saturday and feels part of the performance can give his players confidence, but stressed the need to be better going forward.

“You always have to find positives. Certainly with regard to our possession in the game and working that ball into the final third, those are the areas I was quite happy with.”

“What we needed to do better was not to concede at the time that we did, which made it very difficult for us and we needed to show more quality once we got into the final third.

“Certainly there were some positives and we will endeavour to improve as much as we can and learn as much as we can from these first few games.”
