Brighton & Hove Albion’s under-18s succumbed to a 2-0 defeat against Swansea City at the American Express Elite Football Performance Centre today.

Two goals in the final 15 minutes from Matthew Blake and Causso Darame gave the Swans a 2-0 victory, after having the better of the second half in Lancing.

The first 20 minutes of the game were very cagey with no clear-cut chances for either side, but the contest sprang into life when Swansea were awarded a penalty after Charlie Ferguson was penalised for handball in the box.

But the visitors were unable to take advantage, as Tom McGill pulled off a fine save low to his left-hand side to keep out Liam Cullen’s spot-kick.

Cullen had another chance to break the deadlock moments later, but headed wide from Tom Price’s in-swinging free kick into the box.

Darame was next to try his luck for the Swans as he saw his deflected strike go wide, before Cullen’s header from the subsequent set-piece skimmed the roof of the net.

Cullen had the first chance after the re-start for the visitors, but saw his close-range shot saved by McGill.

The Albion shot-stopper was called into action again to tip Marco Dulca’s header onto the bar just moments later.

Swansea came close to going in front again through Joe Lewis, but he blazed his effort over the target from deep inside the box, before Cullen’s searching strike just cleared the far post.

Archie Davies made a driving run down the left-hand side and picked out substitute Stefan Ljubicic in the box, but the latter’s header at the near post went wide.

But after creating several goalscoring opportunities in the second half, it was Swansea that took the lead in the 77th minute through Blake, who fired the ball home from an in-swinging cross from the left.

That lead was doubled just four minutes later through Darame, whose shot from just outside the box beat McGill at his far post.
