Brighton & Hove Albion’s under-21s were beaten 2-1 by Reading in a behind-closed-doors friendly at the American Express Elite Football Performance Centre today.
Goals from Conor Shaughnessy and Tyler Frost were enough to secure the Royals a narrow victory, before Connor Tighe pulled one back for Simon Rusk’s side.
Albion made a bright start to the match, as James Tilley weaved his way into the area and saw his shot blocked, before Reading keeper Luke Southwood had to be alert to save Rob Hunt’s cross to the far post.
The Seagulls broke forward once again and Dessie Hutchinson ended a slick move with a shot from distance that cleared the crossbar.
Liam Kelly then came close for Reading but he also fired his shot over the bar.
There was a nervy moment in the Seagulls' defence when keeper Bailey Vose was almost caught out by Shaughnessy, but he recovered well to clear the danger.
Elvis Manu came close to breaking the deadlock when his shot went over the bar after Hunt’s excellent delivery into the box.
Henrik Bjordal then played in a superb ball to Tom Dallison, who saw his header saved.
The Norwegian delivered another dangerous ball into the area, this time for Manu, who saw his header go off target.

Dylan Barnett did well down the left-hand side to set up a chance for Dallison, whose header was cleared away at the far post.
Reading doubled their advantage with five minutes left after Frost was played through on the left-hand side and his angled drive clipped in off the post to beat substitute keeper Robert Sanchez.
The Seagulls scored a consolation when Hutchinson teed up Tighe, whose deft finish with the outside of his boot beat Southwood in the 87th minute.
