HUGHTON PRAISES THE FANS' IMPACT

8 March 2016

Albion's manager hailed the influence of the club's fans.

Brighton & Hove Albion manager Chris Hughton has praised the incredible support received from the fans at the Amex this season.

Albion face Sheffield Wednesday tonight, ahead of home fixtures against promotion rivals Burnley and Derby before the conclusion of the season.

Hughton said, “One thing we can guarantee in those games is that we’ll have a tremendous support at home and big numbers too, so yes, we have to make the most of the home form.

“There isn’t anybody that can achieve [a promotion push], generally at any level without doing well at home and we need to keep that going.”

Hughton also admitted that there are big games to come and that the significance of the fixtures is growing each week.

“It does seem that every game we play now, because we’re getting to that stage of the season, is a big game and of course we’re trying to get maximum points in whichever game we can.

“Certainly if you're able to win those big games [against fellow sides in the hunt for promotion], they are points that they don’t get so yes they do take on a little bit of a meaning, but it seems that for where we are at the moment every game is a tough game.”

The Albion boss also spoke about how the gap between the Premier League and the Championship is getting smaller.

“Bournemouth and Watford are getting themselves into a very good position in the Premier League.

"The three teams who came up would have been favourites to come straight back down again, so I think certainly the teams coming from the Championship to the Premier League are in a better position now. That also means that it could be a lot tougher in the Championship next season.”
