BUCKMAN ON DERBY TEST

14 December 2016

Albion's under-18 coach looks ahead to tonight's FA Youth Cup tie.

Brighton & Hove Albion under-18 coach Ian Buckman says his players should rise to the challenge of playing at the Amex, as the Seagulls face Derby County in the FA Youth Cup tonight.

Albion host the Rams in a 7pm kick-off and Buckman says the players will gain plenty from playing on a big stage.

He said, “Everyone is looking forward to it; we know Derby are a good side and we’re expecting it to be a very competitive game.

“It’s a night the players look forward to, particularly after being drawn at home and having the opportunity to play at the Amex.

“It needs to be something they embrace and take full advantage of the opportunity they have.

“It’s about making sure the players enjoy the occasion without changing how we approach the game or how we perform on the night.”

The Seagulls head into the game following their biggest win of the season to date, a 4-1 defeat of Aston Villa, and Buckman felt the result had been coming.

He is also hoping for a good crowd on the night and encouraged Albion’s fans to turn up and support the youngsters.

“The Villa performance was pleasing and we feel like we’ve been moving forward of late with a couple of draws prior to that.

“We just played in a similar manner [against Villa], but with probably a bit more composure and we managed to take some chances.

“We would certainly appreciate everyone’s backing and support. It’s an important night for the lads and I’m sure everyone will get behind them and hopefully it will be a night that everyone can enjoy.”

Tonight's FA Youth Cup tie will be streamed live on Seagulls Player HD.
