The Albion manager named the youngster on the bench for the first time.
Chris Hughton was pleased to give young centre-back Ben White a place in the first-team squad for Saturday’s goalless draw with Derby County.
The 18-year-old signed his first professional contract this summer and the Albion manager says the youngster can only benefit from the experience.
He said, “We did have other selection choices, but not many in terms of players that can play at centre half.
"He’s [White] a young talent and this will do him the world of good, this experience of being around us and the pressure that comes with it. If we have a problem at the back, then he’s coming on.
“It might be a vital 20, 30 or 45 minutes for him and he’s got to produce. This is a great experience for him.”

The Seagulls boss says that he will fully utilise his squad for the visit of Colchester United to the Amex in the EFL Cup on Tuesday.
“I will make wholesale changes and I think we are in a position to do that, with a game on Friday.
“We have a competitive squad; the likes of Elvis Manu and Danny Holla weren’t even in the squad on Saturday and they’ve both had a long pre-season.”
