Brighton & Hove Albion’s under-21s beat Newcastle United 4-1 at St James’ Park tonight.
The result sees Simon Rusk's side move off the bottom of the Barclays U21 Premier League Division Two table, as Albion ended the season in style.
Albion broke the deadlock in the 11th minute, when Jack Harper's shot from distance flew past Newcastle keeper Nathan Harker.
The lead was doubled just two minutes later, as Henrik Bjordal's cross from the left-hand side was met by Joe Ward, who slotted home at the far post.
The early goal rush continued, as the home side pulled one back through Luke Charman. The forward raced on through to beat Albion keeper Christian Walton with a fine finish with 15 minutes on the clock.
The hosts had a good chance to level the game in the 19th minute through Callum Roberts, but he curled a shot wide past the post.
Newcastle goalscorer, Charman, nearly added to his tally as he forced Walton into a fine save shortly before the interval.

Walton preserved their slender advantage by keeping out a fierce strike from Jamie Cobain.
Substitute James Tilley gave the Seagulls a two-goal cushion just three minutes after coming on to replace Harper, as he beat offside trap and fired the ball home to make it 3-1.
Jonah Ayunga then made it 4-1 just three minutes later, after the Newcastle defence failed to deal with an Albion free-kick and the target man squeezed the ball home from a tight angle.
Mackenzie Heaney could have netted a late consolation for Newcastle, but Walton made another smart save and Albion claimed a comfortable win.
