Brighton & Hove Albion’s under-18s returned to winning ways on Saturday with a 2-1 victory over Derby County at the American Express Elite Football Performance Centre.
Goals from Alex Cochrane and Reece Meekums earned Albion all three points and cancelled out Alex Cover’s first-half equaliser, as the Seagulls went top of the Group Three table.
Ian Buckman’s side could have taken the lead in the ninth minute, when Meekums forced a fine save from Rams keeper Josh Barnes with a close-range effort.
But the deadlock was broken just moments later after Cochrane took advantage of a mistake in the Derby defence and slotted the ball home.
Cover netted an equaliser for the visitors just before the break, when his header beat Robert Sanchez in the Albion goal.

The Rams created another chance after Cameron Cresswell played through an intelligent ball for Lewis Walker, but the latter’s effort forced a fine save from Sanchez.
But Albion scored the decisive second goal in the 69th minute after Meekums fired home from the edge of the box to put the Seagulls 2-1 up.
Sanchez was kept busy by the Derby attack, keeping out efforts from Luke Thomas and Jahvan Davidson-Miller, but the Seagulls held on for all three points.
