KAYAL WINS PLAYER OF THE SEASON AWARD

24 April 2016

The Israeli international won the big prize on the night.

Beram Kayal held off stiff competition from Bruno to claim the Brighton & Hove Albion 2015/16 Player of the Season award.

The Israeli picked up the accolade at the club’s Players’ Awards Dinner at the Amex after gaining 41 per cent of the fans’ votes.

Kayal edged out Bruno, who claimed 36 per cent of the vote in a fiercely contested race, but the Spaniard didn’t leave empty handed, as he was given his trophy for being named in the Football Manager Team of the Season at the Football League Awards, while he was also named in the PFA Championship Team of the Season.

Goalkeeper David Stockdale came third in the race for Albion’s Player of the Season, while top scorer and Kayal’s fellow Israeli, Tomer Hemed, came fourth.

In an emotionally charged part of the evening, the club paid tribute to the first responders from the Shoreham Air Disaster, presenting them with the Sarah Watts Inspiration Award.

Phil Grimstone and Caroline Schilt presented the emergency services with the award, before also giving Stockdale his PFA Community Champion trophy for his efforts to support the families following the tragedy last August.

Elsewhere, Connor Goldson was named the club’s Young Player of the Season by the first-team coaching staff, while Jiri Skalak’s thunderbolt against Queens Park Rangers unsurprisingly scooped Goal of the Season.

The forward garnered an enormous 85% of the votes from Albion fans after the club re-opened the Goal of the Season voting following the Czech’s strike against QPR.

84-year-old Seagulls supporter Graham Wood won the Fan of the Season Award for his determination to continue attending games, despite suffering from severe walking and sight problems.

Club legends, Danny Cullip and Guy Butters, were recognised for their joint service of over 25 years with the Community Achievement Award.
