  • Jack Harper makes his Seagulls debut
  • Albion record their first draw of the season

Brighton & Hove Albion’s under-21s held league leaders West Bromwich Albion to a 1-1 draw at Tamworth FC’s Lamb Ground.

Shaun Donnellan gave the Baggies the lead, but Daniel Akindayini’s strike ensured Albion claimed a share of the spoils in the West Midlands.

The game started in a rather cagey fashion with few chances for either side until Chike Kandi hit the post after he connected with Dylan Barnett’s cross.

Andre Wright then had a couple of chances to give West Brom the lead; the first was a left-footed drive which went wide of the post, before his header from Robbie McCourt’s cross sailed over the bar.

Jeffrey Monakana came close for the Seagulls when his strike from 15 yards flashed wide of the post.

Samir Nabi had the final chance of the half for the hosts when his curling 25-yard effort went wide of the far post.

LATEST NEWS FROM SEAGULLS.CO.UK

Albion keeper Christian Walton was called into action shortly after the re-start when he made a fine save to keep out Jonathan Leko’s close-range strike.

Charlie Harris was next to try his luck for Simon Rusk’s side, but his half-volley from 25 yards flew over the crossbar.

The hosts took the lead in the 63rd minute when Donnellan’s towering header from a Kyle Edwards cross beat Walton.

Albion had a chance to bring parity to the scoreline when Monakana’s teasing ball narrowly missed several players in the box.

The equalising goal did come after 77 minutes thanks to Akindayini - the summer signing racing through on goal before tucking the ball under Baggies keeper Ethan Ross.

The game also saw Jack Harper make his Albion debut from the bench, replacing Monakana, and he could have given the Albion the victory but his powerful 25-yard drive was well saved by Ross.

ALBION: Walton; Hunt, Barclay, Dallison, Hunt; Ward, Harris, Molumby, Monakana (Harper 75); Tilley (Starkey 84), Kandi (Akindayini 61).

SUBS NOT USED: Doherty (GK), Cadman.
