ALBION END OCTOBER HOODOO

17 October 2015

Brighton & Hove Albion’s 2-1 win at Leeds United ended a five-year run without victory in the month of October.

Albion's last victory in the tenth month of the calendar year came in 2010, away at Peterborough, and since that 3-0 win, the Seagulls had not triumphed in October for a total of 20 games, suffering seven defeats and drawing 13 times.

Bobby Zamora’s 89th-minute winner at Elland Road gave the Seagulls all three points over Leeds which ended the curse - and, incidentally, the last time the Seagulls won in October they were promoted to the Championship.
That Albion side featured four current players: Gordon Greer, Kazenga LuaLua, Inigo Calderon and Casper Ankergen.

The last Albion team to win in October: Ankergren (GK); Greer, El-Abd, Calderon, Painter; Bennett, Dicker, Kishishev (Battipiedi 77), Bridcutt; Barnes, Murray (Baz 70). Subs not used: Brezovan, Elphick, LuaLua, Hart, J Smith.

Gus Poyet was the man in charge, but he wasn’t able to secure a win in October 2011 or 2012, neither Oscar Garcia or Sami Hyypia in 2013 and 2014 respectively.
