Brighton & Hove Albion women midfielder Kirsty Barton says the team are eager to bounce back from last week’s frustrating 2-2 draw with West Ham against Keynsham today, kick-off 2pm.
Albion slipped three points behind league leaders Portsmouth following the result and Barton is expecting anything but a straightforward encounter against the division’s bottom club this afternoon.
She told, “Keynsham have got a point to prove after getting relegated and we’re expecting them to take the game to us. It’s a big game for us as well as we need to pick up the three points, but we’ll approach it in the same way as any other.
“Last week [v West Ham] we played some brilliant football, but unfortunately it didn’t happen for us in the final third. We had a number of chances but just couldn’t put them away, but when we play our best football, we are a match for anyone.”

Barton says the team is approaching the game in confident mood ahead of back-to-back games against the Somerset side and will not be overly concerned with Portsmouth’s results, in their bid to take advantage of any slip-up from the league leaders.
“It’s going to be quite hard playing the same team two weeks in a row, but we’ve got to stay focused and get the results we need.
“We’ll be keeping an eye on Portsmouth’s results, but we’ve been really positive back in training this week and we just need to focus on ourselves.
“Everyone in the squad is really happy. We’ve come so far this season with effectively two teams coming together, so to even be in the title race is fantastic.
“It was probably not what we expected because our goal was to simply gel as a team and take it from there. Whatever happens we’ll be really happy and proud with what we’ve achieved."
