Albion in the Community is holding a unique fitness class aimed at encouraging more women to take up football.
Zumba® Fitness Football combines football and dance for an energetic work-out and is the brainchild of Kim Stenning, AITC’s women’s and girls' football development officer.
The charity is holding a one-off session at the American Express Elite Football Performance Centre tonight between 6.30pm and 8pm and has plans for a ten-week course in the near future.
The event is open to all women and Stenning hoped as many people as possible would head along to the Albion’s state-of-the-art American Express Elite Performance Centre to give Zumba® Fitness Football a go.
She told, “This is a brand new project where both dance and football is mixed together to create a high-energy class to introduce participants to football on a different level.
“There are around two million women across the country who do not take part in as much sport as men so we are trying to come up with new ways to get people involved.”

The Zumba® Fitness Football class is part of the AITC’s work with the nationwide This Girl Can campaign. This Girl Can was developed by Sport England to encourage and celebrate women’s and girls’ participation in sport and fitness activities.
A number of the Albion’s women’s team will be at the Zumba® Fitness Football event and there will also be England women’s internationals in attendance as the FA is a big fan of the idea.
Stenning added, “Zumba® Fitness Football is a great opportunity to get fit and have fun - and the session is open to all women, so don’t forget to bring your friends.”
