STOCKDALE FILLED WITH OPTIMISM

17 June 2015

Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper David Stockdale is eagerly anticipating the start of the new season after the 2015/16 SkyBet Championship fixtures were released on Wednesday.

The Seagulls shot-stopper feels that the new fixtures will give fans and players fresh positivity for the new season after a disappointing 2014/15 campaign.

He told seagulls.co.uk, “I can’t wait; there are a couple of fixtures against two of my former clubs that I was looking out for this season, with one being Hull and the other being Fulham.

“We get them both early on and it makes everyone feel excited for another year and helps them forget what happened in the last 12 months. The optimism is revived again.

“I’m looking forward to the Fulham game and hopefully the result is the same as well. But any new fixture gives us renewed confidence and we’re always proud of the support we get away from home.”

Albion kick-start the new season with a home match against Nottingham Forest on 8th August, before making the short trip to Stockdale’s former club Fulham on 15th August.

The 29-year-old admits it is hard to assess who will be challenging in the upper echelons of the table owing to the unpredictability of the Championship.

“You never know which teams are going to do well as it always changes. There is always a team that does well which nobody expected and vice-versa.

“We were expected to do well last year and didn’t, but if we get ourselves ready in the best way we can then I’m sure that we can go into any game with a bit of renewed hope.

“The lads were a bit down last year about how we did, so we’re now really looking forward to the new season.”
