Former Brighton & Hove Albion defender Guy Butters says he is ready to take on the AITC Brighton to Paris Bike Ride this weekend.
Butters will join dozens of other riders in heading to France from Sussex on 26th June and he has been busy training for the gruelling ride.
He told AITC’s website, “At the moment I'm going out quite regularly on my bike that I bought from Giant in Shoreham (on the cycle to work scheme) and have reached 20 miles on a couple of occasions - mostly when going downhill!
“It looks like it's going to be a massive challenge as it's about 65 miles per day, but I'm looking forward to it, especially arriving in Paris with its stunning views - and the ice cold beer that awaits!
“Lots of people from the football club have sponsored me and I've also secured a good deal of money from a few supporters that frequent the 1901 Club, where I host on a matchday.”

Guy, who works for AITC, also admitted he was inspired to undertake the ride not only to boost his own fitness levels, but because of how much good the money raised does for children across the county.
He added, “I volunteered to take on this challenge as I know that the money raised will go to help children across Sussex get involved in playing sport, regardless of their background or whether they have a disability.
“Obviously since I've retired from professional sport, my fitness levels have gone down and, although I play the odd charity game, I needed something to focus on to kickstart myself back into shape."
