Brighton & Hove Albion's events and media teams were celebrating last night, after the club scooped the top prize at the Stadium Events and Hospitality Awards, winning the prestigious Media Choice Award - voted for by national broadcasters and journalists attending matches across the country.
Albion beat off stiff competition to claim the accolade at Leicester City's King Power Stadium , pipping Premier League clubs - and previous winners - Aston Villa and Manchester City to the title.
Albion's head of media Paul Camillin commented, "We've always ranked well in this award, but this is the first time we have been judged the best in the country, so the events and media team can be very proud to have beaten off two Premier League teams to win the award.
"Working with Sodexo - our events and catering partner - the club works really hard to ensure everyone receives a warm welcome whenever they visit the American Express Community Stadium, and the media are no exception.
"Often travelling long distances, like the fans, we always aim to cater for their needs and ensure that they are always well taken care of, and help them get their work done, quickly and easily. It's a good team with a great work ethic, and it's superb that the efforts of the media team, our matchday stewarding staff and the catering team have been honoured."
The Argus chief sports writer Andy Naylor is a regular media attendee at the stadium and believes the award is well deserved.
“This success for the club emphasises they offer a matchday experience for working journalists which is second-to-none.
“The facilities and hospitality at the Amex are top class. The local media in particular were grateful that Martin Perry consulted us about our needs when the stadium was being built.”
