STEPHENS: ALBION GELLING WELL

23 July 2015

Dale Stephens believes the 3-0 win over Crawley Town showed that Brighton & Hove Albion are starting to gel together ahead of the new season.

The Seagulls produced a commanding display to comfortably win at the Checkatrade.com Stadium, and the midfielder feels the combination of new signings and players returning from injury have put Albion in a good position.

He told seagulls.co.uk, "The new signings have fitted in well. In training Sam Baldock and Tomer Hemed have been playing a lot together, so they can only get stronger and hopefully they can form a good bond.

"Tomer is fitting in well and he's getting better every day. He showed today that he's got quality and I'm excited to see him play with Sam and the rest of the boys.

"Sam is looking sharp and he's been quality since he's been back. He's sharp anyway, that's the kind of striker he is.

"Andrew Crofts is back from a long-term injury, so he's desperate to get back playing again and to get back into the team like everyone else is."

The midfielder praised the side for their rapid start against Crawley, and was pleased to see the team finding their goal-scoring form.

"It was a fast start and that's how we want to play. We want to play with tempo and we showed that, we have got this form early on in pre-season and hopefully we can build on this performance.

"We had the game against Lewes at the weekend and we stepped up again today. We will do that again until we play Sevilla at home.

"It was a good test, but most importantly everyone came through it and got some good minutes as well.

"It's good to get some goals and we scored a few good goals today so hopefully we can build on that as well.

"We tried to get more, but it's early on in pre-season and the lads are going to get tired towards the end of the 60, but we've got to be happy with the game's exercise.

"That's what pre-season is all about, getting as many minutes as possible before the league starts. All the boys welcome the minutes."

Meanwhile Stephens hit the net in spectacular fashion during the win at Crawley, but acknowledged there was a slice of fortune to his goal.

He admitted, "It was a good finish but it came off my big toe I have to confess!

"It was nice to see it go in and get off the mark in pre-season. I've tried it once before and it didn't go anywhere near the top corner, so it was nice to see it go in!"
