REPORT: GILLINGHAM 1 ALBION 2

29 July 2015

GILLINGHAM 1
O'Grady threatened again on 22 minutes, this time driving low on the angle to force Stuart Nelson into a smart one-handed stop.

The hosts however, almost stole the lead in fortuitous circumstances as a wicked deflection off Tom Dallison nearly sent the ball into the net, but summer signing Niki Maenpaa made a fine save, clawing the ball away.

Albion had two early sights of goal, with strikers Adrian Colunga and Chris O'Grady firing wide, while the Spaniard went even closer with an exquisite chip that came back off the bar.

Bradley Dack had given Gillingham the lead just after the break but Chris Hughton's side responded to claim victory at the club's one-time temporary Priestfield home.

Brighton & Hove Albion's penultimate pre-season friendly ended in victory thanks to goals from Dale Stephens and development squad prospect Chike Kandi.Stephens 56, Kandi 66

Albion had further chances to add to their lead, most notably when Monakana was then denied by Stuart Nelson.

Two of Albion's youngsters combined to put the Seagulls ahead as Joe Ward burst down the right and crossed for Kandi to slot home from inside the box.

Dack will be disappointed he did immediately put the hosts back in front, when he struck over from a promising position.

Albion were only behind for ten minutes, as Dale Stephens levelled with his second goal of pre-season; finding the bottom corner from close range.

There was little the Finnish keeper could do about Dack's goal just after the break though. Norris teed up the Gills striker, who took his time before putting the hosts ahead.

The Gills finished the half the stronger and Norris was thwarted once more: the impressive Maenpaa pushed away the forward's low effort.

Maenpaa then showed his qualities again to twice deny Ben Williamson in quick succession, before Luke Norris stabbed the ball onto the post from close range.
