Brighton & Hove Albion were beaten by Aberdeen this afternoon, after being frustrated by the man-of-the-moment Jamie Langfield in his Pittodrie testimonial.

The Dons keeper showed exactly why he is such a dependable servant to the SPL runners-up with a man-of-the-match performance, as Albion went down to Adam Rooney's late goal.

Langfield was in inspired form from the off, and twice denied Kazenga LuaLua with excellent saves; saving low to his left to push the ball around the post, and then diverting a ferocious, trademark LuaLua strike from the edge of the box.

Those two saves were either side of a brilliant two-handed stop to push away Danny Holla's free kick, awarded for a tactical foul on the Dutchman by Barry Robson, after he had robbed the Aberdeen midfielder and advanced towards goal.

Holla's curling free-kick was heading for the top corner, before Langfield intervened, and Albion went in at the break having had the better of the opening 45 minutes. The best two chances for the hosts were both cleverly snuffed out by returning central defender Lewis Dunk.

After the break, Adrian Colunga, on in place of Tomer Hemed, got in behind the Aberdeen defence early in the half, but again Langfield was out quickly to make a smart stop at the expense of a corner.

From the resultant set-piece, Dunk - who'd been off target with two headers early in the game - directed a headed attempt back across goal, but Langfield was able to gather comfortably on the line.

Aberdeen took the lead from a set piece with 15 minutes left to play, as the ball was worked to Cammy Smith wide on the left; he crossed for Rooney, whose deft back-heel gave the Dons the lead.

Substitute Kenny McLean almost doubled the lead from a free-kick a few minutes later, but David Stockdale pushed away his fierce effort, while late on, Tom Dallison did well to block a shot from Frank Ross.

ALBION: Stockdale; Bruno (Ward 76), Rea (Dallison 76), Dunk, Bong; Rosenior (Calderon 45), Ince (Kayal 45), Holla, LuaLua (Chicksen 76); O'Grady, Hemed (Colunga 45).
