Brighton & Hove Albion defender Glen Rea has loved making the step up into the first-team squad and believes his own fitness work during the off-season is paying dividends.
The 20-year-old has featured in four of Albion’s five pre-season games to date and is now regularly involved with the first team both on and off the pitch.
He told seagulls.co.uk, “For me to be involved in the squad is unreal and to play this much in pre-season has been brilliant. I’ve loved every minute of it.
“I recently moved into the first-team changing room, so that gave me an indication that I might be training with them on a day-to-day basis. I never expect anything from football, so it’s just amazing to be involved so much.
“I’ve enjoyed all the games and they’ve presented me with different challenges.
“This was always my aim and I’m just so happy it’s happened. I worked a lot during the off season with Darren Teague at the Training Pod and I owe a lot to him to get me in this shape.
“I feel great and I have no doubt as to how much that work has helped me during this pre-season. I feel as fit as I have ever have done before and that’s credit to him.”

Albion’s preparations continue with two more friendlies this week - an away trip to Gillingham on Wednesday and a home clash with Spanish giants Sevilla on Sunday - and Rea is hoping to gain even more match action ahead of the new league campaign.
“It’s been brilliant to have as much game time as I’ve had and hopefully I’ll be involved against Gillingham tomorrow as well.
“It will be very tough and if I’m selected again, then it will be great to play and it will give me another opportunity to show what I can do.
“The match against Sevilla will be an unreal game to be involved with and it’s a great game for the club. I’m sure it’s going to be a very difficult test.”
