HAMBO EXPECTS TO SURPRISE

22 July 2015

New Brighton & Hove Albion signing Vahid Hambo hopes that his deceptive style will see him break into the first team.

The 20-year-old revealed how comparisons have been made between him and Sweden international striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, although he is quick to dismiss them.

He explained to seagulls.co.uk, “I’m a tall player, so people may think I am slow and cannot do much with the ball, but my technique is good and I’m pretty fast, so I hope that I can surprise a lot of people.

“It’s quite funny that people compare me to Zlatan [Ibrahimovic] because we’re both tall and strikers, but I don’t compare myself to him or anyone else.

“I’m now focused on achieving success, firstly to improve myself in the under-21s and then in the first-team. I believe that everything is in place for the club to play in the Premier League.”

Hambo confessed that although his knowledge of the Seagulls was limited before he signed, he has been thoroughly impressed with everything he has seen so far and cannot wait to perform in front of a large Amex crowd.

“I didn’t know a lot about Brighton; all I knew was that Sami Hyypia was the manager last season and Antti Niemi was the goalkeeping coach, and I was also aware that another Finnish player, Niki Manepaa, had just joined.

“But now, after seeing the training ground, I can say that these facilities are among the best I have ever seen, everything is new here and so good.

“It will also be great to see the new stadium and I cannot wait to have the opportunity to play here.

“The crowds are much bigger here compared to Finland; only two or 3,000 people watched our games and I hope to play in front of so many more fans."
