CROFTS: FAMILY GOT ME THROUGH DARK DAYS

31 July 2015

Andrew Crofts gave an emotional assessment of how his wife and children got him through his 18 months of injury woe.

The midfielder, who suffered two knee ligament injuries in 2014, made his return to action after nine months out in Brighton & Hove Albion’s under-21s’ defeat to the Nike Academy.

Speaking afterwards to Seagulls Player HD, the 30-year-old said, “Having good people around you always helps and my wife and my kids have been massive.

“They’ve been with me through the good and bad times and they have been a big help.

“My wife, kids, brother, mum and dad have been a massive help. My wife and two kids have really helped me through those tough times, when no one sees you and when you’re at home, you can’t walk and you’re lying in bed in pain - they’re the ones that have seen me at my worst and now they’re seeing me at my best again.

“My boy is six so he has seen me play a few times and he has joined a team himself so I know he will be buzzing to see me go out there and play a game.

“I've got some of my goals saved on the telly so I always show him that so he doesn't forget, but hopefully I don't have to do that and he can see some up-to-date ones this year.

“My boys are loving football at the moment and the big thing for me is to have them seeing me at the Amex playing football.

“That has really kept me going through those dark days and I can’t wait to walk out at the Amex, look in the corner and wave to my wife and two kids. That has really driven me on. Hopefully I won’t look back now.

“There is still a lot of hard work to be done because I want to play and everyone knows how much football means to me and I want to play for a long time.”

The Welshman also paid tribute to the club and the Albion fans for all their support during his time on the treatment table.

He added, “Working with the physio Fraser Young has been huge for me and all the medical team, the board, Chris Hughton, Colin Calderwood, Nathan Jones and the players have been great with me.

“They know what I’m like and have been as good as gold with me; even in the early days they were great with me.

“So were the fans, who were sending me get well messages and saying that they can’t wait to get me back.

“When you’re walking around the stadium and the fans are saying to you that they can’t wait to see you back, then that really keeps you going. Everyone has been superb with me and helped me through the tough times.”

Former Albion players wished Crofts well on his return via social media.
