BUCKMAN PLEASED WITH SHOREHAM DISPLAY

25 July 2015

Brighton & Hove Albion under-18 coach Ian Buckman was pleased with his side’s first-half display following a 4-1 victory over Shoreham today, but felt his players took their foot off the gas after half time.

A brace from David Ajiboye, a goal from Reece Meekums and an own-goal gave Albion a comfortable victory over the Musselmen, and Buckman learned plenty about his side as they continue their preparations for the new season.

He told seagulls.co.uk, “It was a good afternoon for us. We did very well in the first half, started brightly and moved the ball quickly, which we asked the lads to do.

“We created a lot of opportunities and scored some good goals. I was very pleased with what I saw in that first half.

“The lads were then probably complacent after a good first half and Shoreham made it difficult for us after half time.

“But it was a great experience for the lads and it’s important to give them some different challenges that they’re not used to.”

Buckman also praised for Shoreham for their display in what was Albion’s penultimate pre-season friendly before facing Tottenham in their season opener on 8th August.

“The Shoreham lads gave us a good challenge and it was exactly what we needed in front of a good crowd of around 250 people.

“They had some good players that were very strong physically, which was a good test for our younger players.

“We had some 15 and 16 year olds out there and it was interesting to see how they responded to the challenge.

“We’re now looking ahead to Southend next Saturday before our season starts against Tottenham in two weeks’ time.”
