BETO: ALBION FIXTURE WILL AID CHAMPIONS LEAGUE BID

30 July 2015

Sevilla goalkeeper Beto reckons a run out at the Amex can help his side prepare for the Champions League.

The La Liga side play at Watford on Friday then face Albion on Sunday in the run-up to their first competitive fixture of the season, against Barcelona in the European Super Cup on August 11.

Beto, formerly of FC Porto, is competing with youngster Sergio Rico for the starting place in goal after suffering a shoulder injury last season, said, “Of course this trip to England is about fitness and about the new players settling in, but we also believe these games can help us for Europe.

“It will be a different style of football. It is physically strong and the intensity is very high.

“I don’t know much about Brighton and the Championship but I know all English teams are very competitive.

“I watch the Premier League and it is one of the best leagues in Europe. The best? I don’t know. You’ve got the Spanish, the English and the German Leagues. I couldn’t tell you which one is best.

“But English football is still a different style and that can only be good for us because we have got to work on that.

“We are in the Champions League and we could draw teams from anywhere so we have got to be ready for different styles.”

Beto hopes fans turn out to see the Seagulls play one of Europe’s top outfits saying Albion supporters will see a competitive side at the Amex.

He added, “What sort of team will Brighton fans see? Well they will see a team trying to put in a really good physical effort. We need to prepare physically for the season, that’s the most important target right now.

“You will see a Sevilla team who want to have a lot of the ball, who want to defend well, who want to attack well and play some very attractive football.

“We don’t know who will play each game but we have 23 or 24 very good players in our squad competing for places so you will see a good team.”
