Brighton & Hove Albion under-18 coach Ian Buckman says his players should relish the challenge of tonight’s FA Youth Cup tie against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.
The Seagulls are about to enter the competition in the third round stage and Buckman says the fixture is one of the stand-out games in youth team football.
He said, “It’s a great fixture for us, as Forest are a good side. We’re playing at the City Ground which will be great for the boys and they should be really looking forward to the game.
“With the experience that they have now, most of the players are used to playing in bigger stadiums, but it will still be a great night for them and a great occasion too.
“But it’s important that they just treat it as another game in our league programme.”

Forest play in the Professional Development League Two- – a tier below Albion, who compete in a category one games programme, – but Buckman insists this will have little significance going into the game.
“They’re a good side and have done very well in the category two league system. They’re very positive and have got some good attacking players that are dangerous.
“It’s certainly a game that we’ll have to prepare well for and make sure we stamp our authority on the game.
“When it comes down to any cup competition and big occasions, then you have to give everyone the respect that they deserve and make sure we put in a performance that does ourselves justice.”
The fixture comes five days after Albion’s defeat away at Aston Villa and Buckman insists his squad will be ready for another trip north.
“We played West Ham in midweek a few weeks ago, so we used that as a model for how we prepare for the game.
“We’re very fortunate with all the strength and conditioning and medical staff that all help the players prepare accordingly. That’s always part of our thinking and I’m sure all the boys will be ready.”
