KAYAL AIMS TO BRING WINNING MENTALITY

1 August 2015

Beram Kayal hopes that his experience of winning league titles with Maccabi Haifa and Celtic will be beneficial to Brighton & Hove Albion going into the new season as the club aims to challenge for a top six finish.

The Israeli international is heading into his first full season with the Seagulls after joining in January and he has urged his teammates not to look too far ahead if they want to achieve success in the upcoming campaign.

He told seagulls.co.uk. “We want to be near the top, but now I’m just looking forward to the new season.

“I came here in January and the situation was a bit different then coming into a new team, but now I know the mentality of the players and the staff.

“I expect us to go for the top six places and the play-offs, but we need to go game by game because it is a long season.

“We can’t just say that we’re going to win the league or finish in the top six. If we want that, then we need to work hard week-in, week-out, to reach our targets.

“That is what I have learned from winning titles at Celtic and Maccabi Haifa.”

The 27-year-old also reflected on what has been a productive pre-season as Chris Hughton’s men prepare for the arrival of Sevilla to the Amex on Sunday.

“We’ve had a great programme in pre-season, it has put us in good shape and touch wood we won’t pick up any more injuries.

“We’re now getting ready for the game against Nottingham Forest, but first we play Sevilla and the quality in our squad will be tested.

“We know that we are going to be playing against a big club and a big team just  one week before the season starts.

“We’re ready to challenge ourselves against big teams and hopefully it’s going to be a great day for us.”
