REPORT: ALBION 1 ROTHERHAM 1
Brighton & Hove Albion were held to another draw as newly-promoted Rotherham left the Amex with a point.
Albion took the lead through Joe Bennett right on the stroke of half-time, but former Seagull Alex Revell levelled the scores just after the break with a low finish beyond David Stockdale.
The hosts had the majority of possession in the opening half and Chris O’Grady had the first real chance of the game, but he fired Adrian Colunga's cross wide of the post in the second minute.
Gary Gardner was next to try his luck with an attempt to beat Millers keeper Adam Collin, who was off his line, however the midfielder couldn’t execute the chip.
Jordan Bowery had a golden chance to give the visitors the lead but he headed Ben Pringle’s cross wide of the post.
Stockdale then made a fine save on the half-hour mark to deny Paul Green’s low goalward effort.
The Albion stopper was called into action again ten minutes later, this time to palm away the lively Revell’s header.
Albion took the lead right on the stroke of half-time through Bennett.
Fellow Villa loanee Gardner played the left-back in but his first touch appeared to let him down as he honed in on goal; however he persevered and managed to squeeze the ball home from a tight angle.
Rotherham levelled just after the break though as Pringle crossed to Revell, and the striker took a touch before finishing low past Stockdale.
The Millers almost took the lead through captain Craig Morgan’s long-range drive, however Stockdale got down well to palm away the danger.
The game then calmed down with both sides sharing possession without finding a cutting edge.
Substitute Paddy McCourt injected some life into Albion as Sami Hyypia's men pressed for a winner.
Adrian Colunga almost headed the side in front but his effort flew just over the bar in the 72nd minute.
A minute later McCourt made an excellent run and played a dangerous ball right across the goalmouth, however no Albion player followed up and the chance went begging.
Lewis Dunk almost added another to his five-goal tally but Collin saved well to deny Albion’s top scorer.
In the 90th minute Stockdale got down well to save Jonson Clarke-Harris’s powerful free-kick and he was on hand again a minute later, this time to save Gordon Greer’s inadvertent goalbound slice.
