England Women internationals Casey Stoney and Alex Scott paid a visit to St Joseph’s Primary School in Haywards Heath as part of Albion in the Community’s (AITC) girls’ football participation scheme.
The two players were greeted by the excited youngsters at a special school assembly, before taking part in a Q&A session, followed by an AITC football skills exercise with girls from the school.
LATEST NEWS FROM SEAGULLS.CO.UK
England captain Stoney told seagulls.co.uk, “It was fantastic to come down to Haywards Heath today and get such a great reception from St Joseph’s.
“One of the great things we get to do as England players is meet children that love the game and who want to learn as much as they can about it. The pupils loved the skills sessions and who knows, maybe there’s an England star or two of the future there.”
Cath Walker, Headteacher at St Joseph’s, told seagulls.co.uk, “We were delighted to have hosted such world class ambassadors for women’s sport. It was a fantastic opportunity for all our children to be inspired, and to raise the profile of sport here at St Joseph’s.”
England have a 100 per cent record so far in the qualifying campaign, following victory in their first four matches and hope to continue their run on their first visit to the Amex Stadium.
Luke Tyler, an AITC girls football participation officer coach that regularly runs football sessions at St Joseph’s added, “Today went so well and having players of that stature come to one of my sessions makes it feel like our efforts to get girls more involved in football are worthwhile.”
