Sami Hyypia was pleased with the application of his players during the 4-0 win over Partick Thistle but says there is still plenty of work to do ahead of the new season.
He told seagulls.co.uk, “It was a very good workout for the team and I saw many things that we have been practising on the training pitch, and the pre-season games are for that.
“Of course when you win using what you practice, that gives us confidence to carry on practising those things so the next time we do them even better.
“I have a few things that are very important for me and how I like to play football, and now I hope that during this season I don’t have to coach that much as the players have the ideas already in their heads.
“Now we are just in the second game but as we play more games that will get into the ideas more and more.”

The Seagulls manager was also pleased to see how well his young players fared against Partick, with only Bruno left on the field as a senior pro for the last half hour as Albion’s youth took the team over the finishing line.
“It is great that there are some good youngsters at the club and as much as they are with us I think they can get confidence for the future and their careers.
“Who knows if one or two of the youngsters are going to break through this season, there are any positive cases there and I am happy with how they have done.”
Hyypia confirmed that Leo Ulloa and Kazenga LuaLua missed the game with minor injuries and neither was risked.
Striker Ulloa had an ankle problem and LuaLua a calf issue. He added, "Both were not able to play."
