Report: Hull 2 Albion 1

Hull City edged out Albion 2-1 at the KC Stadium to end the Seagulls’ FA Cup run.

Two first-half goals from Curtis Davies and Robert Koren proved enough, although Leo Ulloa replied on 69 minutes in a battling display by Oscar Garcia’s men.

The Premier League side could have established an early lead had Matty Fryatt not miscued his effort however the Tigers didn’t have to wait long to put themselves ahead.

A corner from the left on 14 minutes was met by Davies whose header looped over Peter Brezovan and Jake Forster-Caskey and in off the post.

Hull then extended their advantage on 36 minutes as Koren’s free-kick took a deflection past a stranded Brezovan.

Albion responded by introducing Kazenga LuaLua at half-time but it was an unlikely source that nearly pulled the Seagulls back into the tie.

Stephen Ward’s cross dropped to Lewis Dunk in the Hull box and the centre-back rattled the crossbar with a ferocious half-volley.

Oscar’s side were much improved but the Premier League hosts were still dangerous as Maynor Figueroa saw his strike deflected wide, while Ward was on hand to deny Sone Aluko moments later.

Albion wouldn’t let their cup dream die without a fight though, and David Lopez’s teasing free-kick was all too inviting for Ulloa, who rose highest in the box to guide home with his head.

Ulloa also glanced a late header wide and then saw a curling effort from distance bounce the wrong side of the post, while Solly March drew a late save from Steve Harper, but it is Hull who will face Sunderland in the quarter-finals.
