Brighton & Hove Albion women head coach John Donoghue admitted that injuries to Charley Boswell and Toni-Anne Wayne disrupted his side’s performance against Charlton Athletic today.

Boswell (hamstring) and Wayne (dead leg) were forced off in either half as Albion were beaten 2-1 by the Addicks.
He told seagulls.co.uk, “We were working to a certain shape and asked the players to do certain things, but the injuries disrupted what we wanted to do.

“Bozza (Boswell) was flying last week and played superbly; unfortunately it’s another injury for her.

“Paige Adams came straight back in and we had to adapt the midfield slightly. You want to make decisions for technical reasons rather than being forced to.”

Despite the injuries Donoghue believes his side only improved their performance after conceding the opening goal.

He added, “We started a bit slowly and probably gave them a bit too much respect. We didn’t step up to the ball quick enough when it got cleared and sat back to allow them to get a few shots from corners early on.

“Once we conceded we stepped up and supported the ball better going forward. The goalkeeper made a good double save and Paige has hit the crossbar.

“We started to play a bit more like last week and if it wasn’t for their goalkeeper, then we could have easily got a goal before half-time and the complexion of the game could have changed.”
