Report: Doncaster 1 Albion 3Two late goals from Leroy Lita and David Lopez gave Albion a dramatic win at Doncaster Rovers.
Oscar Garcia’s side looked set for a seventh draw of the season after Jake Forster-Caskey’s opener was cancelled out by Chris Brown, but loan signing Lita struck within two minutes of coming on, before David confirmed the points in the last minute.
Within the opening three minutes Doncaster had a sight at goal as Mark Duffy curled a 20-yard free-kick just wide of the post, but it was Forster-Caskey who opened the scoring five minutes later with a spectacular strike from 30 yards.
Both keepers were called into action with Tomasz Kuszczak beating away Duffy’s low drive before Ross Turnbull produced a terrific stop to tip over Will Buckley’s arrowed left footed effort.
David Cotterill came within a whisker of an equaliser while up the other end Stephen Ward headed over before Suk-Young Yun fired wide when one-on-one with Kuszczak, with a lot of credit owed to the Pole for making himself big enough to distract the South Korean.
Turnbull was equal to Chris Conway’s half volley as Oscar’s side went in ahead at the break, however the hosts came out with renewed vigour in the second half, forcing the Seagulls back into their own half.
Albion’s defence stood firm to defend a variety of balls into the box but the pressure continued from Paul Dickov’s men.
Swirling wind was a mainstay for the entire match but that did not stop Rovers from finding the equaliser; Duffy’s low free-kick guided home by Brown at the near post with 15 minutes to play.
Lita entered the fray on 82 minutes but it was his strike partner Ashley Barnes who nearly found the telling strike, seeing his strike come back off the frame of the goal.
But Barnes played his part in helping the Seagulls restore their lead as he hooked Ward’s header back across the goal into the six yard box, and while the Albion fans called for handball Lita swept in from close range.
Any hopes of a late equaliser for the hosts were soon dashed as David curled an exquisite free-kick home on the 90th minute to seal the points and ensue a mass exodus from the Keepmoat by the home fans.
