Gus Poyet has called for a repeat of Tuesday night’s defensive display when his side travel to Bolton Wanderers on Saturday, but admits that they must be more potent in attack.
The former Premier League side have won four consecutive Championship games and the Seagulls boss said that he is willing to take more risks in Lancashire than he did at Bristol City in midweek.
Poyet told seagulls.co.uk, “We need to play better than Tuesday in terms of attacking but play the same in terms of defending. We were spot on defensively. They [Bristol] only had shots from distance and if we do that every game we will win. Having said that we did not have a shot on goal which is very poor.
“We need to take a few risks and that all depends on what happens on the day. I didn’t think Tuesday was the night to take a massive gamble because there was nothing in the game. We need to do it on Saturday though and if we have to we will take risks.
"Bolton have had a good run of games and I’m sure there will be a different atmosphere around their club now. They were in a worrying situation at one point and I’d imagine we’ll be playing against a different team on Saturday. They have the players to be in the top six because the quality of their squad is unbelievable.
“They have experience, they are playing at home and they are winning so it will be one of the hardest games for us. Having said that, it’s another great game for us to play."
The Uruguayan has also set his side a target as they look to take some valuable lessons from the position they were in this time last season.
“From our point of view we need to win one of the next two. Now we have the chance to win this one so let’s go and really try to win it.
“From the last 11 games of last season we only made about 12 points, and we didn’t lose many. We need to make more points this time and to do that we have got to win.
“Then of course we will try to win in Barnsley but whatever happens, we cannot afford to go three games without winning.
“There will be a big impact from Bolton because they are on a good run and to win we will have to be spot-on. We need fresh legs because it will be competitive but we always look forward to playing against the big teams, which Bolton are.”
