MATCH UPDATES

FT: History repeats itself as for the second consecutive season as Albion knock Alan Pardew’s Newcastle United out of the FA Cup. Gus Poyet’s side secure an impressive 2-0 win thanks to goals from Andrea Orlandi and Will Hoskins, and the players leave the field to rapturous applause.

90+3: late chance for Newcastle as a corner finds Williamson at the back post but the defenders drive is well blocked by Adam El-Abd and Gordon Greer just before Probert blows the final whistle.

90: Hoskins nearly wriggles past Elliot but the keeper manages to claw the ball off the Albion striker before up the other end Ankergren does well to deny Ranger.

87:GOAL! That is Albion into the fourth round draw! David Lopez slides in Will Hoskins who makes no mistake one-on-one with Elliot as he passes the ball through the legs of the Newcastle keeper and sends the Amex into raptures!

85: Some of the East Stand thought it was 2-0. A short corner from Albion opens up some space for LuaLua but the wingers shot is just dragged into the side netting.

82: Wayne Bridge scored last week but sees his effort from the edge of the area deflect behind off of James Tavernier.

77: Casper Ankergren has to be alert to tip away Sammy Ameobi's deflected strike but the keeper does just that and Newcastle are denied again. The ten men of Newcastle are starting to pile on the pressure here.

75: Two chance for Newcastle as the ball falls invitingly for substitute Sylvain Marveaux but his shot is brilliantly deflected over the bar by Liam Bridcutt. from the resulting corner mike Williamson heads the ball back across goal but Sammy Ameobi heads over.

68: Fantastic atmosphere inside the Amex as the home fans sense a win against their Premiership rivals. Still twenty plus minutes to go though.

62:RED CARD! Big and potentially pivotal moment as Newcastle United captain Shola Ameobi receives his marching orders. The striker catches David Lopez late and Lee Probert shows him his second yellow, and then the inevitable red card.

60: Goalscorer Orlandi comes off to a standing ovation as he is replaced by former Newcastle player Kazenga LuaLua.

55: The ball drops invitingly for substitute Nile Ranger in the Albion box but the strikers volley is well off target.

53: Orlandi tries to double his tally for the day but his effort from distance sails harmlessly over.

46: Second half underway at the Amex with Albion 45 minutes away from a cup shock. Alan Pardew has responded to his side's first half display by making a double substitution. Nile Ranger and Paul Dummett replace Mehdi Abeid and James Perch.

HT: Gus Poyet’s side deservedly lead at the break thanks to Andrea Orlandi’s acrobatic finish.

37: Newcastle attempt to hit back but Vurnon Anita’s effort fails to finds the target.

33:GOAL! Albion have the lead thanks to a piece of individual brilliance from Andrea Orlandi. Wayne Bridge manages to keep Gordon Greer’s raking diagonal ball on and his first time cross finds Orlandi in the Newcastle box. The Spaniard takes a touch before acrobatically volleying the ball past Elliot. Magnificent finish.

22: Gael Bigirimana robs Dean Hammond of the ball in the midfield before seeing his attempt from 25 yards parried away by Casper Ankergren. Adam El-Abd heads the rebound behind for a corner which comes to nothing.

09: Brilliant header off the line by James Perch denies Gary Dicker his first goal of the season. David Lopez's searching cross to the back post is headed back across goal and over Rob Elliot by Dicker, but Perch is on hand to nod off the line. Positive start from Albion.

03: Another promising opening as Ashley Barnes meets Wayne Bridge’s cross from the left but is unable to direct his header goalwards. The loose ball nearly drops for Hammond again but the Newcastle defence manage to clear.


02: Early chance for Albion after Andrea Orlandi's cross is not properly cleared Dean Hammond has a chance to shoot but fires over.

Gus Poyet makes two changes to his New Year's Day starting line-up, which includes a first start of the season for Casper Ankergren.

The Danish goalkeeper starts in goal with Tomasz Kuszczak making way; the Polish stopper has been named on the bench.

Elsewhere, Irish midfielder Gary Dicker returns to the starting XI with former Newcastle United winger Kazenga LuaLua dropping to the bench.

Newcastle boss Alan Pardew makes five changes to the side that lost to Everton in midweek.

In goal, Rob Elliot starts in place of Dutch international Tim Krul, while James Tavernier starts in the heart of the Magpies defence at the expense of Fabricio Coloccini.

Elsewhere, former Coventry midfielder Gael Bigirimana is given a place in the starting XI alongside Mehdi Abeid; Sylvain Marveaux drops to the bench and Cheick Tiote misses out owing to international duty.

Striker Sammy Ameobi returns to the Magpies strike-force, alongside his brother Shola, Papiss Cisse drops out of the side and has not travelled.
