Poyet Pleased with Options

18 October 2012

Gus Poyet has a near-full squad available for selection against Middlesbrough on Saturday and with that comes a number of tactical options according to the Albion boss...

The Uruguayan is expecting added strength within his strikeforce and midfield, owing to the return of Craig Mackail-Smith, Andrew Crofts and Will Buckley.

He told seagulls.co.uk, “This will be the first time that we have all eight of our summer signings available together. This will be the first time that they are all competing together so there are lots of decisions for me.

“A lot will depend on this game though. My selection will have nothing to do with two weeks ago or the following game against Blackpool – I don’t like making lots of changes but I will be basing everything on Middlesbrough.

“I don’t know what system they will play and they have a few injuries so we have got to prepare for every situation, but we will be ready for any tactical situation Middlesbrough put us in.

“Players will miss out and I know that they will get upset but this is perfect for me as a manager because I like making decisions.

“I always accept responsibilities, whether they are good or bad. There are more responsibilities now and I like that.”

The two sides battled out a 1-1 draw at the Amex last season and Poyet is anticipating another game of fine margins, where possession will be the influential contributor.

“We were both very even last season. There was not one team who was much better than the other last season – that showed at the Amex and with a 1-0 win for them at the Riverside Stadium, which was because of an individual mistake by us.

“Middlesbrough have been in the Premier League and they want to get back which makes them another dangerous team, and they have a lot of good players. Their style makes them different and they will be winning plenty of games.

“The football will be the key on Saturday and whoever uses it best will get more out of the game.”

Tickets for this game are still available online, via the ticketline - 0844 327 1901 - and in person at both ticket offices.
