The American Express Community Stadium was among the winners of the Structural Steel Design Awards 2011, sponsored by The British Constructional Steelwork Association Limited and Tata Steel.
The award was presented to Albion chief executive Martin Perry and representatives of Buckingham Group Contracting Limited, Watson Steel Structures Limited - who fabricated the steelwork at the stadium - architects KSS Design Group and SKM Europe Limited, who were the structural engineers.
Perry said, "The design of the stadium is all about the roof so to receive one of the country's top awards for roof design is a huge accolade and I congratulate the designers, KSS Architects and SKM on their innovative design.
"Already our new home is being recognised nationally as a superb example of stadium architecture, one of the best in the country and we should all be very proud of it."
The judging panel added, "This building provides a long-awaited home for Brighton & Hove Albion FC with community facilities. A large structure, with a curving roof and main trusses, it sits comfortably into the rolling South Downs, while the blue translucent roof shows off the well-executed roof steelwork.
"A well-conceived and executed steelwork project, demonstrating close and effective co-operation in the team, it brings success for the client and public."
