Neal Maupay stretches to poke past Alphonse Areola, but the keeper saved his effort.

Graham Potter says that Neal Maupay's performance in Wednesday draw against Fulham was one of his best of the season so far.

The striker was denied by Fulham stopper Alphonse Areola in the second half from close range but was a danger throughout with his work rate and tenacity.

Potter said, “Neal wants to score and help the team, but forwards don't always convert all of their chances, that's not how football is.

“I actually thought the match against Fulham was one of his best matches in terms of how he fought for the team, won his duels and held the ball up and brought others into play.

“He just has to keep working and he reflects the team in that respect.”

Neal Maupay was picked out by Alexis Mac Allister, but fired over under pressure.

Albion created plenty of chances against Scott Parker's men but were unable to add the decisive goalscoring touch, but Potter was pleased with what he saw from the home side nonetheless.

“The players knew they played well in the game and that we were the dominant side overall, that was the feeling afterwards.

“We have to stick to the things we did well, but I really liked the attitude and effort of the players because we created some really good chances.

“If we maintain that togetherness and personality that we showed then I'm confident we can start turning these draws into victories.

Adam Lallana gets behind his teammates from the sidelines.

The boss also provided an update on Adam Lallana and Aaron Connolly, who both took their place in the squad but were unused substitutes.

“Adam wasn't ready to come onto the field, we used him more to be around the players and around the group.

“Aaron is slightly closer to returning but hasn't had much time either, so I didn’t want to force him into the game.”
