Jason Steele revealed that preparation was vital to the four saves he made in last night's Emirates FA Cup penalty shootout win over Newport County.

Albion prevailed 4-3 winners on spot-kicks after the game finished 1-1 after both normal and extra time, with Steele impressing in the shootout.

He said, “I did some homework on the penalties and committed to what we prepared for.

“The guys prepare for every outcome and that was the case tonight.”

The match had been forced into extra time through Adam Webster's own goal in the dying moments, and Steele held his hands up for the way in which the goal came about.

“I hold my hands up for my responsibility for the goal with the last kick of the game, but I'd like to think I've redeemed myself a little bit and helped the team into the next round.

“I feel like I performed well as a whole but then made an error, that's the life of a goalkeeper and those things can happen.

“But we've qualified which was our objective, it was a tough place to come so we're pleased to get through.”
