Graham Potter applauds Solly March during the game with Manchester United.

Graham Potter has praised the exploits of Solly March so far this campaign.

The 26-year-old has started all four Premier League games to date in a left wing-back position and was on target against Manchester United at the Amex last month.

He said, “I have been impressed with him, he played at left wing-back a few times last year. He started [in the side] last season, but then got injured and that set him back.

“Solly is a player that we like, and we can see what he can bring to the team. He did that really well against Manchester United and he’s in a good moment.

“The challenge is to get to that level and improve on it more often. He can affect the final third, defends well, and he’s been playing his part in the team’s performance recently.”

Potter also complimented the way that March has improved the defensive side of his game and believes he will only continue to improve.

“He has embraced those defensive responsibilities. Last year, following the restart, he played quite a bit at left-back for us internally, just in case we needed to go to a more attacking full-back position.

“That probably helped his defensive game, but as a winger he’s always done the defensive work.

“I don’t think the wing-back role takes away from his attacking game - if anything he can bring more to the side.

“Things such as positioning, when to run in behind, when to build up and when to drop a little deeper to protect against the transition are all things he’ll get better at the more he plays in the position.”
